Hi, I'm Steve Greger
I'm the one and only employee of my hobby knife making business, Bird Dog Cutlery. I have a passion for hunting, cooking, and bird dogs. Along with my wife and four dogs, I live on a small homestead farm in north-central North Carolina.
My Story
I’ve been a knife maker going on 14 years. I inherited the desire to make things from my father and have dabbled in leatherwork, wood and decoy carving, kayak paddle making, and now custom knives.
As far back as I can remember I’ve always carried a knife with me. Starting with small dime store pocket knives to large, sturdy hunting/utility knives. Over the years, in my opinion, the quality of steel in commercial knives has declined and I was frustrated with knives that would not hold an edge longer than one use. So, 14 years ago I decided to try making one myself using high quality carbon steel which is known to be stronger than stainless steel and, by its nature, holds an edge much longer.
All of my knives are handmade using quality, high carbon steel and a variety of materials for the handle ranging from antlers to stabilized rare/tropical hardwoods.
